With the first day of winter fast approaching us and the temperatures definitely dropping this is the perfect time to look at your skincare regime.

Every season has its strains when it comes to the skin but I think winter overall is the most problematic.

Minus temperatures and lack of daylight affect the skin’s barrier function and can mean tight, dry and sensitive skin, rough knuckles and chapped lips.

It really is time to take that bit of extra care…. Up your skincare game and give it some TLC.

My top tips to keep your skin happy this winter would be…

1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Of course, keeping the skin hydrated and protected is the most important thing when battling the elements. Going from the cold into centrally heated houses puts extreme stress on the skin.

Using a good quality hyaluronic acid serum twice a day is going to help the skin retain its moisture. HA holds up to 1,000 times its own weight in water and acts as a sponge so the skin is able to hold onto the moisture that is applied. If your HA levels are low the skin moisture will evaporate quickly.

Use a lightweight product that increases hydration and enhances the skin’s natural barrier with sodium hyaluronate and strengthens skin, reduces sensitivity and slows the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Perfect to use as a booster under moisturizer

2. Protect your skin
Continuing to wear full-spectrum sun protection is vital. Although the UVB rays are much less during the winter the effects of the UVA rays are massive. As long as there is daylight there is UVA and your skin needs to be protected from this. I would recommend booking a consultation with one of our skincare experts to make sure your SPF is suitable for the winter.

3. Treat skin from within
As most of you who follow me know I believe in a full 360-degree approach to skincare and treating your skin from within is particularly important during the winter months to get all-round results. Drinking plenty of warm water and herbal tea will not only be comforting for you but will also keep your skin cells hydrated. Your body absorbs warm water twice as fast as it does cold water and warm water is also believed to have the following health benefits
